MBBS Course Details

Course Duration:

The MBBS course consists of 4.5 years of academic study divided into 9 semesters of 6 months duration each followed by an obligatory 1 year rotating internship amounting to 5.5 years altogether.

Medium of Instruction:

English is used for instruction, exams, and practical training thus making the transition into academics easy for Indian or other international MBBS students.

The structure of the course:

Preclinical – Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry

Paraclinical: Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine 

Clinical: Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Internship Training:

After completing the academic program, students go through an obligatory 1 year rotating internship program within various departments of the teaching hospital. 

Recognitions & Accreditations

NMC Recognition:

The Nepal Medical Council recognizes MCOMS. Indian students should confirm its compliance status with India's National Medical Commission (NMC) for eligibility to appear in licensing exams back home.

WHO Recognition:

The institution is listed in directories referenced under the World Health Organization framework for medical schools, supporting international credential recognition.

Other International Recognitions:

MCOMS is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) — a baseline requirement for graduates wishing to appear for licensing exams such as USMLE (USA) or PLAB (UK), subject to each country's specific requirements.

Compliance with the NMC Guidelines:

In order to be eligible to take the FMGE/NExT exam(s), Indian students who are currently in college or the batch they belong to must make sure they are compliant with the latest NMC (India) regulations governing foreign medical graduates, as these guidelines change regularly, and each year through graduation will have a different guideline.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic prerequisites:

Candidates must have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects, securing at least 50% aggregate marks (typically 45% for reserved categories, subject to current norms).

Age Requirement:

Be at least 17 years old by December 31st of the year in which you're applying.

NEET Qualification Requirement:

Indian students are mandatorily required to qualify NEET-UG to be eligible for MBBS admission abroad, including at MCOMS, as per Indian government regulations.

NEET Score Requirement:

While there is no rigid NEET cutoff score for Nepal-based medical colleges as there is for Indian government counselling, students need a valid qualifying NEET score/percentile in the current academic year.

Only Current Year NEET SCORE Will Be As Accepted:

The current admission cycle will only consider one year of NEET (Medical Admission Test), so therefore, if you have a NEET score from any previous year you will not be eligible for admission in 2022-23.

Seats for International Students

MCOMS sets aside a certain number of seats for international (non-Canadian) students to register into their MBBS program every year. The total number of MBBS programs offered yearly is approximately 100 but the exact number can change at each admission season (and possibly at any other time as well) due to either Government policies and/or MCOMS' policies. To determine how many places are available for international students, please contact our School directly, as the number can change regularly, based on changes to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) or MCOMS policy.

Student Life at Manipal College of Medical Sciences

Campus Activities:

At MCOMS, they provide students with opportunities to participate in several sporting events, medical fests, seminars, etc., so that the students have an opportunity to develop many of their skills and talents as well to promote a well-rounded living environment.

Throughout the year, the college hosts various cultural festivals and celebrations for students to show off their creativity and have fun with college life.
