1. Education of Quality:

NGMC follows the MBBS curriculum as recommended by Kathmandu University and also the academic system of NGMC is in accordance with a recognised university and not an autonomous syllabus. MEC’s academic guidelines offer a standard template in which classroom learning in the early years merges into hospital-based clinical training later on.

2. Worldwide Recognition:

The World Directory of Medical Schools is maintained by the WHO and FAIMER together. As such, for example, the ECFMG (USA) and the GMC (UK) must confirm that someone is a graduate as part of their licensing process before allowing them to take the exam to become a licensed doctor.

3. Experience in an Operating Theatre:

All of the NGMC teaching hospitals are run as education sites by NGMC and there are many patients in the Kohalpur hospital (which alone has several hundred beds). As a result, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience from a much earlier time.

4. Staff with Experience:

The faculty consists of consultants versed in their subject area with postgraduate qualifications (MD, MS, MCh and DM in Urology, Paediatrics, Anaesthetics and Dermatology), most of whom have trained in institutions such as BPKIHS Dharan, with varying success rates and some where fellowships have been awarded by centres such as CMC Vellore.

5. Presence of Indian-trained Academics:

Due to Kohalpur’s location near the border with India and having a considerable number of Indian students enrolled at NGMC, there are also other Colleges in the same area with their faculties having trained backgrounds from India to help ease the transition for Indian students once they begin attending classes.

6. A Safe & Supportive Place to Live:

All hostels are gender-based (i.e., boys and Girls only); therefore, hostels have been built with separate rooms and common areas for students to interact. All hostels will also have CCTV (CCTV) in the hallways. An important and much-needed assurance for parents is the anti-ragging policy of the College. 

MBBS Course Details

Duration of Program:

The total length of the MBBS programme is 5.5 years; the programme consists of pre-clinical study for 2 years and clinical studies for 2.5 years, with 1 year of supervised intern training required. (Compulsory) Externs must complete a rotating internship before degree completion according to NMC’s foreign medical graduate requirements.

Language of Instruction:

All classes, textbooks, and exams are in English — a key reason Indian, Sri Lankan, and Bangladeshi students find Nepalese MBBS programmes easy to transition into.

Course Content:

Course content is divided into three two-year periods consisting of: Year One and Two — Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry; Year Three — Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, and Community Medicine; and Year Four through to Graduation — Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, etc. in the specialty of your choice through the Kathmandu University medical school courses.

Internship in Kohalpur or Nepalgunj:

Internship during and upon graduation must occur at an NGMC-designated teaching hospital (Kohalpur or Nepalgunj) and it is a required 1 year of residency training, where you will complete your residency in the specialty of your choice and obtain your medical licensure. 

Recognitions & Accreditations

NMC Recognition:

Nepalgunj Medical College is affiliated with Nepal Medical Council and the Medical Education Commission (MEC) of Nepal. MEC conducts the entrance examination and allots the seats to the both local and foreign students.

WHO Recognition:

NGMC is featured in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) that is a common WHO-FAIMER database where other international licensing authorities such as ECFMG (United States) and GMC (UK) check whether the foreign university graduates can take the USMLE or PLAB exams.

Other International Recognitions:

There are also recognitions from medical boards of various SAARC countries and educational websites mentioning NGMC among the list of colleges from Nepal having high pass rates on India’s FMGE exam.

NMC Guidelines Compliancy:

As far as Indian students are concerned, guidelines of India’s NMC state that the college should be included in the approved list of universities, should be teaching in English language, should meet 54+ months plus internship requirement and the candidate should have a NEET qualification

How to Reach Nepalgunj Medical College?

Both of the NGMC campuses are located in Banke district of Nepal’s Lumbini Province, at Kohalpur and Chisapani.

• By Air: Nepalgunj’s Domestic airport is situated a very short distance away, and has regular domestic flights to Kathmandu and other large cities within Nepal, as well as serving several international flights.

• By Road: East -West Highway provides public access to the area via buses and taxis.

• The most frequently travelled route to the Indian border from Bahraich, UP, is the Rupaidiha border crossing. The time taken to reach NGMC from this area is relatively short and familiar for North Indian students compared to crossing other land borders or by air.
